This afternoon the eighteenth edition of the Mare Nostrum football Cup tournament was inaugurated. The tournament will host 3000 players and 3000 companions, a total of more than 6000 people who will enjoy the Costa Daurada. This tournament already consolidated in our regions and being a benchmark in the country, focuses on football basis and has the participation of teams from the prebenjamín category to the juvenile category in men, and an Open category in women.
The event was held at Cambrils Park Sport Village and counted on the presence of the Tourism Councilor of Salou, Benet Presas; the General Director of Cambrils Park Resort and CE Futbol Salou, Xavier Blasi; the Sports Director of CE Futbol Salou, Albert Viñas; the Manager of Mare Nostrum Cup, Delfí Vives; and the Director of the Tournament, Josep Masip.
From Friday, March 30th and until Sunday, April 1st, 236 football teams will play more than 500 matches, many of which simultaneously, in more than 20 football pitches of the Costa Daurada. The teams come, mostly, from Catalonia and Spain. Also, it highlights the presence of teams from Europe, America, Asia and Africa.
The tournament, in exponential growth in recent years, takes advantage of the facilities of the Complex Esportiu Futbol Salou to celebrate a large number of matches. But to size the sporting activity, they have also looked for other equipment. They will count on the 11 fields of at CE Futbol Salou, the municipal football field of Salou, 6 football pitches in Reus, 3 in Tarragona and 1 in the Catllar. The matches will be played between Friday and Saturday. On Sunday the finals will be played simultaneously at noon and the awards ceremony will take place at 1 pm at Futbol Salou.
Benet Presas wanted to highlight, above all, the trajectory of the tournament: "eighteen consecutive years say a lot in favor of the organization. In addition, counting on the facilities of Futbol Salou, those have helped you to obtain the “brand” of sports tourism in football. To the words of the Tourism Councilor, Albert Viñas has welcomed the participants inviting them to enjoy and discover the Costa Daurada, which has an "excellent climate and gastronomy. A perfect cocktail that will make the coexistence of the 240 teams, in an excellent Resort, create memories that they will want to relive next year”.
